What Would Happen if you could better yourself by reading? A question with an answer, self-help, and self-care books have been building as a franchise, becoming their niche. I have been on quite the journey with both life and myself. Self-care books seemed like a ploy a way to sell fake or foney answers you wanted. However, on my journey, I have had the determination to use tools accessible to me despite my doubts.
Over the last 6 months, I have read, heard, and listened to about the benefits of these books, some have worked some have not! So I bring to you the first part of a 2 part series on these books, this first part is a list, and review of some of the many books that I have read that have helped me in one way or another. So enough of the rambling, here are the 5 self-care books I found that genuinely impacted me positively, these may not be everyone's cup of tea. This is my opinion and mine alone.

The first book on my list is
“The Anxiety survival guide”
Written by Michael Powell, the anxiety survival guide is one of those books that is a small anytime read, whether you need a pick me up, advice, or a reminder this book had me skeptical at first, but I gave it a go, and I am beyond happy I did! At first, I read it with a toxic and anxiety-filled mindset disregarding any advice this book had to offer, but slowly and almost without my recollection I started using the tips and tricks subconsciously, putting them into my daily routine and the way I coped with intense anxiety. So I picked it up again and read it with a new mindset completely, I cannot describe the underlying power this book had on my mind and I continue to carry the words, wisdom, and tips with me daily.

The second book on my list is already an international bestseller “Looking inward, how to find calm in a chaotic world”
The first point I will say is despite the slightly hard-to-read and pronounced name of the author the book is by far one of the easiest reads I have ever had. Unlike some books that tend to throw you in the deep end, where they start at the end of a person's journey this book doesn’t throw you from the frying pan into the fire, it has real experiences and examples of the struggles people go through, even if no relevance to you or your situation is stated, it has a way of relating to you. The author of this book has shown personality and vulnerability, it tells us the journey of many, which personally gave me hope for my stability of mind.

The third book on my list is one that I have seen so many reviews and opinions on, both good and bad! After much consideration, I decided to have my turn! The title of this book instantly relates to everyone even those who were raised in the most loving and stable families find parts of this book relative to them, over my years I had a less-than-normal situation, I have a loving family and friends yet this book made me look at my relationships in a whole new light, that tiny festering guilts you get, for example, you yelled at your parents during in your rebellion years, this book helped me and many let go of minor or major guilts, tips and advice on communication. I cannot recommend this book more, no matter who you are or what your story is.

This author in one read became both my guiding light as well as my enemy, prepare to feel things and let things in you never expected, this is a very inspirational book but it's so real with things stated and said that it will have you questioning everything about yourself. I had moments of rage, sadness, and disappointment reading this but gradually page by page chapter by chapter I realized these small taunting memories became less heavy stopped being a regret and a burden, and became a lesson, and once I established this, I realized I was accepting these memories and thoughts and moving on from them. This book has some sort of magic behind it.

The final book on my list is one that had the most psychological impact, physical scars become memories, they are no longer open wounds, so why do we hold on to mental wounds, feeling their pain of them in daily life, this book spoke to me in a way I didn’t expect, it opened my eyes to the things I hadn’t let go of the things harboring in my mind, causing pain, like an open wound. Wounds turn to scars they are always there but scars are a memory, not a present, this book helped me deal with these mental wounds and slowly taught me to allow the pain to come but to let it scar over, to be a memory, with physical scars you see them will remember what caused them you may even remember the pain, but you don’t feel it anymore not in the same way, so why do we let mental wounds stay open and raw, this book helps you let these heal and scar. It's a book that changed my life.
All these books can be found on platforms, amazon, and audible and provide both paperback and hardback copies, closing off this blog I will state my thoughts, I never was a believer in the power of reading, I enjoyed reading but never saw the beneficial impacts, it dived to realize the power they have, so go, give that thing you doubted a try, your mind might just be changed.
Until next time….goodbye.
